How to turn your artwork into a custom NFT?

December 10, 2022

So you've heard about Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), what they can do for artists' careers, and you're wondering if it's possible for you to participate. We're pleased to tell you that you can get involved and we've created a guide to help you every step of the way.

Art and the blockchain

In the year of 2021 we saw many major figures enter the NFT space including celebrities like Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg and Eminem. Even big brands like Louis Vuitton, L’Oreal, and the NBA joined the space and already have their buyers using non fungible tokens.

The reason so many different creatives have found opportunities in NFTs is because they can be applied to everything. An NFT is a unique trackable piece of digital data registered in the blockchain that can be tied to any form of media. This can range from a video, to a song, or even a film scene. The value of an NFT can be derived from its scarcity, authenticity or utility. Collectors of NFTs are able to invest in Web3 technology, tools, art and most importantly people.

For creators, joining the NFT market opens many doors to new opportunities, audiences, and partnerships that may have been inaccessible before. Direct ownership rights for collectors and investors help people interact without centralized institutions.

How to create your NFT

There are 3 common questions to consider when it comes to creating an NFT collection:

  1. Will NFTs work for me and my audience?

While it's natural to have doubts about whether your current audience will be interested in your art as an NFT, it's important to remember that the NFT space attracts a diverse range of individuals who appreciate both art and NFT technology. Consider what aspect of NFTs interests you the most, whether it be blockchain technology or the community behind it.

  1. Is making an NFT limited to digital art?

No, while you can certainly create digital art and turn it into an NFT, there are also opportunities to create NFTs that come with physical pieces or collectibles that add to the value of your NFT. Such as many artists offering to ship the original painting that's been turned into an NFT. The possibilities are very much not limited to digital art alone.

  1. What if I don't understand blockchain technology?

It's understandable to feel overwhelmed by the technical aspect of blockchain technology, but rest assured that it's possible for anyone to gain a solid understanding of it. There are plenty of resources available that explain the technology in a easy-to-digest manner, without any unnecessary jargon.

One of which we're about to cover.

Once you have answered these questions and decided to proceed with creating NFTs, it's important to carefully plan and strategize on how to bring your NFTs to life.

It is important to also put yourself in the shoes of your investors and think of what will be authentic and valuable to them. Whether this comes from the inspiration behind your art, the medium of art or any additional value you can provide. Moreover, you don't have to constrict yourself to just one thing, you can try out several types of art both digital and traditional, or by selling a PFP project and rare 1-of-1s. There are no limits.

Becoming an NFT creator

You do not have to ditch your current medium of art to go fully into NFTs, it is in your control how far you take it. We recommend you observe and study the space and find what is right for you. Make sure that you have a presence on Twitter and Discord as that is where you will find the majority of NFT enthusiasts, artists, information and opportunities.
